A recent article in the Christian Science Monitor had an article about Tryon enjoying the unusual distinction of being both a winter resort and a summer re sort. Hiking, riding, tennis and golf were listed among the acti vities enjoyed here by visitors . . . Tom Costa says there is no differ ence in the feeding value of yel low and white corn, except yellow corn contains carotin which is converted into Vitamin A upon digestion. White corn contains no carotin .... Cpl. Chas. A. Speed of the State Highway Patrol was in Tryon Monday checking up on highway law violators; those driv » without the new license plate, . . . There are 2,639 families in Polk County according to fig ures issued by the A&P Co., office in New York, in making a state ment that Polk County house wives can save 32,196 pounds of steel by reducing their purchase of tin can canned goods by just one tin can a week. A single family can save over 12 pounds of steel a year by buying one can less each week. The statement claims that if North Carolina’s 79,000 families do the same it will save over nine million pounds of steel. Noah Wilson of Jackson’s is selling dehydrated soup mix in cellophane "bags which he says will save a lot of steel and tin ... . Somer ville of Detroit have purchased the original DuCharme home on Estabrook Hill from Mrs. Chas. B. DuCharme. Mr. and Mrs. Somerville arrived in Tryon Mon day and are now guests at Mimosa : Inn while work is being done on the house. They expect to move in about February 1st. Mrs. Du Charme built another home on Estabrook Hill some time ago. Sale was made through W. M. Hester. The Episcopal Church Meeting Postponed Owing to the gasoline restric tions the Annual Parish meet ing of the Church of the Holy Cross, scheduled for Wednesday night at the Parish House, has been postponed. This meeting will be held next Sunday morning im mediately after the 11 o’clock service. SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED The regular monthly entertain ment of a group of Camp Croft | soldiers in the homes of Tryon J and at the Parish House, was held 1 Sunday.
